About Laurence

Laurence has a wealth of musical experience and musical tastes which are extremely wide ranging. He is genuinely happy to teach all different styles on both piano and keyboard.

Laurence was born in 1973 and grew up in Lincoln, singing in the Cathedral Choir and studying classical piano with Geoffrey Greed before moving on to Leeds College of Music (1993-96) to study modern music and jazz. He then began his teaching career (piano and keyboard) but also performed regularly as a pianist in theatres and restaurants. He began composing prolifically, mainly as a songwriter and went on several UK tours as a session keyboard player, including performances in major London venues and Glastonbury Festival.

He moved to Norwich in 2002 and quickly established a teaching practice, teaching some days at Cookes Pianos. He set up his purpose built home teaching studio in Swardeston, four miles south west of Norwich. He also teaches piano at Mulbarton Primary School.

  • He continues to work on developing his own classical piano performance, giving regular professional recitals in the Norwich area, including the 2012 'Concert for Rachel', 2016's 'Music of Spain' and a solo recital at the 2019 Bracon Ash Arts Festival.

  • He gained the ALCM diploma in 2013 in piano performance.

  • In December 2017 he performed live on BBC Radio 3 'Exposure' presented by Verity Sharp.

  • In 2019 he passed another piano diploma, the LLCM (Licentiate).

  • He continues to play in two bands; Ben Grizzly and the Loose Leaf Drifters and The Winter Visitors.

  • He is the regular accompanist for the Mulbarton Community Choir, who perform regular concerts in the Norwich area.

  • As an accompanist he is also available for music exams, with 24 years of experience accompanying candidates for ABRSM and LCM exams in Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Singing.

  • Laurence is an experienced jazz pianist who is available for functions, weddings etc.

  • He is a freelance church organist across Norfolk.

  • He is currently recording an album of his own piano compositions, including the 'Christmas Toccata', performed at the 2019 Mulbarton Carol Services:
